Where Has Time Gone?

Apologies for the silence of my social media presence over the summer. Apart from a few aurora and Race Across Britain cycling shots I haven't posted a great deal of anything on my Facebook and Instagram accounts, let alone X, Threads or LinkedIn.

This year, I had grand plans for the warmer months, including potentially, the launch of my latest book. This novel has been a slow burner. I promise it will be worth the wait. However

“Life is full of curve balls,

Huge, great concrete ones,

Hard to dodge or push away,

For their jagged surfaces are never smooth."

Thanks to a huge, great curve ball or two, I found myself in a different mindset than expected. All the places I wanted to be had to be cancelled, and the diary was suddenly empty as the future remained and continues to remain uncertain.

Writing has been sporadic at times. So, instead, I have dusted myself down and have gone where my heart and brain need to be. In precious moments, I have been putting together something that wasn't planned. Perhaps in my sleeping hours, the old rusty cogs have found a rhythm for this period of my life. A writer friend advised me to make small victories when I can. Now that it is in the final stages before publication, a new poetry anthology, Searching For Light, doesn't feel tiny. It feels gigantic and exciting.

My project to write a crime novel is not forgotten. She Who Was moves slowly towards glory. Another dear author friend who has taken a look at the first twelve chapters said recently, ‘It's going to be big!’ We can, but hope.

The book will happen. It is mostly written, and knowing the end is in sight is comforting. I don't want to rush it, fearing that if I do so, it will be spoilt. It feels like a fine wine, fermenting and maturing away, and I want it to taste perfect. If truth be known, I love writing it and enjoying the secrets it holds to myself at present. There is a strange warmth around realising I am the only person to know 'Who dunnit!' but that the secrets will be revealed to the universe one day. I promise I won't keep it under wraps much longer, but I am not racing over the publication line without honing and polishing it.

Searching For Light will be published on 23rd November. It can be pre-order from my website from today. It's special and definitely not second best!
